Woman With No Kids Is Confused When DNA Test Shows She Has A Daughter
After seeing her mammogram and ultrasound reports, Molly Sinert decided to buy a DNA testing kit to understand her health conditions better. Little did she know what was waiting for her on the other side of the test.
Often, people think they are in control of their lives until something unexpected pops out of nowhere and surprises them. Depending on the surprise, they either feel joyous or unhappy.
Today’s story also revolves around life surprising people in unexpected ways. The woman in question couldn’t believe her eyes when she saw the shocking DNA test results.
After experiencing some strange symptoms, Molly Sinert, a South Korean woman by birth, decided to get herself checked. The doctor wrote her some tests, including mammograms and ultrasounds.
Feeling anxious, she got the tests done with her husband. Fortunately, the test reports were clear, but Sinert still wasn’t satisfied.
Since Sinert was adopted, she didn’t know much about her birth parents and their health histories. She decided to buy a DNA testing kit to see what kinds of diseases ran in her family.
In February 2021, Sinert’s husband reminded her about the DNA testing kit she had bought during the holiday season. That day, she took the test, sent it to the lab, and waited for the results.
A few days later, the results came back, and Sinert was shocked to see them. At first, she and her husband doubted the DNA testing company’s authenticity because of what she saw in her results online. She explained what the results said:
“I opened up the results, and it said you have one close relative, and her name is Isabel.”
While checking the results, Sinert had no idea who Isabel was. Curious, she clicked on her name and was shocked to read the details.
Per the DNA testing company, Sinert shared 49.96% DNA with Isabel. The website also predicted that Isabel was Sinert’s daughter. During an interview with Good Morning America, Sinert said:
“This is obviously not right because I have never gone into labor. I don’t have children.”
ONE STEP FORWARD
While Sinert and her husband were doubting the test’s credibility, she decided to take a step forward and message Isabel. She thought it might help her learn about her family’s health history.
In her message, Sinert revealed she was adopted from South Korea in 1985 and wondered how she matched almost 50% with a stranger.
On the other end of the chat was a single mother whose daughter, Isabel, had taken the DNA test on her tenth birthday because she wanted to know more about her mother’s side of the family.
THE STRANGE CONNECTION
Emily Bushnell, Isabel’s mother, managed her daughter’s account and received an email notification when Sinert sent her a message. Through the 23andMe DNA test, Isabel discovered 11 distant relatives on Bushnell’s side and almost 1000 on her father’s side.
The little girl couldn’t find a close relative on her mother’s side until Sinert contacted her. Isabel and Bushnell were lying together in bed when an email notification popped up on the mother’s phone. Bushnell said:
“I had a message from 23andMe that said you have a relative match, and this relative is trying to reach out to you.”
EXCITING TIMES
The excited mother-daughter duo clicked on the link in the email, leading them to Sinert’s message. Bushnell was stunned after reading about Sinert’s adoption details. She instantly knew they were related.
The real shock came when Bushnell and Isabel entered Sinert’s full name in Google’s search bar and saw the image results. They couldn’t believe their eyes. Sinert looked exactly like Bushnell.
Before calling her family, Bushnell replied to Sinert’s message and told her that they were born on the same date, March 29. It was hard to believe for Bushnell, but it seemed like Sinert was her long-lost identical twin sister.
THE UNBELIEVABLE TRUTH
After reading Sinert’s message and looking at her photos on Google, Bushnell called her family and asked her about some details that confirmed Sinert was her identical twin sister.
They were born in South Korea on March 29, 1985, and were separated at birth. Both were adopted by Jewish families living in different parts of the U.S.
Bushnell grew up with her adoptive family in Yardley, Pennsylvania, while her twin sister, Sinert, spent her life in Winter Park, Florida. The sisters knew they were adopted but were never interested in finding their birth family.
LOOKING BACK IN TIME
After their brief chat, the twin sisters exchanged photos from their childhood and were stunned to see that they had the same hairstyles as kids.
Bushnell and Sinert also sent photos from their senior prom. They were taken aback by the similarity in their dressing sense, wearing similar beaded strapless dresses and having the same hairstyles. Bushnell said:
“I realized this is probably one of the many twin moments we’ll discover.”
NO VIDEO CALLS
The twin sisters had decided not to talk on Zoom or Facetime before meeting each other in person. They decided to see each other for the first time on their 36th birthday, on March 29, 2021.
Before the reunion, Sinert was so nervous she kept asking her husband if she and Bushnell would look alike. Meeting her long-lost identical twin for the first time in three decades had made her anxious. In an interview on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” Bushnell said what she felt about their heartwarming reunion:
“That was the best day of my life!”
THEIR 36TH BIRTHDAY
The twins met each other for the first time in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. They instantly hugged each other while tears rolled down their cheeks. Sinert looked at Bushnell for a few seconds and exclaimed:
“This is so bizarre. This is so weird. It’s like looking in a mirror!”
Bushnell and Sinert spent their 36th birthday together and had a hard time believing they were reunited after more than three decades. The women had no idea they were twins all these years.
REGRETS
After meeting her identical twin, Sinert felt they should have known about each other. She also wondered why they were separated at birth because she believed they would have lived an incredible life otherwise. She said:
“We could have been best friends. We could have done these things together.”
Despite what happened in the past, the sisters look forward to enjoying the rest of their lives together. Soon after their first meeting, they went on a trip with their families and had the best time of their lives.
STAYING CONNECTED
Although the sisters have their own families, they stay connected by texting each other every day and exchanging clothes. They are also wondering whether they should connect with their birth parents.
What would you do if you met your identical twin one day? What would you ask them? We would love to know your opinions on this story.
